Youth for peacebuilding
FAsCE India, in collaboration with Fransalian Youth Mission (FYM), organized a three-day Training of Trainers on ‘Youth for Peacebuilding’ at its head office from Jan 29 to Feb 1, 2015. It was the first of four such ToTs to follow during the year, part of the project, “Youth for Peacebuilding: Training of Peace Volunteers in NE India.”

Dr George Panthanmackel, the president of FAsCE India, inaugurated the project and addressing the participants, he said: “We can promote peace only through a gentle outlook and compassionate approach, never through violence. Peace is not possible without this conviction.”

“FAsCE India’s initiative in peacebuilding through the project is praiseworthy as conflict and tension continue to play havoc on lives and properties of countless people in the Northeast. It will be of great contribution to the on-going process of building peace in the region and will make a difference in the lives of people,” said Fr Varghese Velickakam, the director of NEDSF, Guwahati.

A total of 27 youth from across Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland participated in the programme. A team of experts from Peace Channel, Nagaland, consisting Fr C P Anto, the founder and director, Mr Kevilhouthie Victor Yhome and Miss Menguzenuo Sachu, project coordinators, animated the sessions.

Aimed at building a network of youth, willing to work for peace and harmony among people, the training helped the participants to begin their journey of becoming effective peace builders.

“The training taught me non-violent methods of problem conflict resolution and promoting harmony, and challenged me to work for promotion of peace,” said a participant.
